Counsellor & Performance Coach

Understanding people beyond the immediate problem

Gabrielle-Beth Volovsky – PACFA Certified Practicing Counsellor and Master of Psychotherapy and Counselling, founder of Becoming On Point.

I am fascinated by patterns in our thinking, feeling and behaving that sometimes only become apparent when they impact our relationships or decisions.

In fact, the very attributes that help you succeed in difficult situations like responsibility, perseverance and self-control can be stressors themselves.

Psychological, experiential and practical perspective is integral to my way of working. I not only pay attention to what is happening but to what might have influenced that experience and what perpetuates it.

I have both Master's and Bachelor's degrees in the fields of counselling and psychotherapy, and psychology and criminology respectively. I am a Certified Practising Counsellor with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).

In terms of experience, I have been working across the fields of counselling, mental health, alcohol and other drugs services, and coordination/performance-based work.

I previously worked for Brisbane Youth Service as a Dual Diagnosis Counselling Coordinator where I counselled youth dealing with mental health issues and substance abuse along with some coordination of the work done.

Additionally, I have been doing private practice and online counselling for individuals dealing with anxiety, emotion regulation, relationship issues, burnouts and life transition through different platforms.

I employ different approaches such as cognitive behavioural, acceptance based, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic approaches in addition to being trauma informed and somatically informed in my practice.

Professional Background

Experience & Approach

In addition to this, I have had some background in competitive martial arts, being a professional Muay Thai and boxer. This has influenced my perspective on performance, discipline, pressure, and how we relate to ourselves.

This also sparked my interest in the process of when strengths become a problem because of the way that we use them.

Discipline does not guarantee the ability to relax. Capability does not mean security. Knowledge of what to do does not automatically lead to the ability to act differently.

This is something that is essential for counselling and performance coaching.

My research deals with the connection between learned beliefs, emotional reactions, behaviour and the environment in which this all is formed.

My task is to learn how this works, to see which reactions are still valid and to leave more space for conscious actions.

Who I Work With

I work with adults from a range of personal and professional backgrounds.

In counselling, I support people navigating anxiety, emotional overwhelm, self-criticism, relationship difficulties, burnout and patterns linked to earlier experiences.

In performance and mindset coaching, I work with professionals, founders, leaders, athletes, creatives and others interested in how their beliefs, expectations and habitual responses influence their work, relationships and performance.

Online counselling is available to adults in Australia. Performance and mindset coaching is available internationally, subject to suitability and relevant local requirements.

Working Together

I believe meaningful change often begins with understanding ourselves more clearly, including the responses we've developed, the beliefs we carry and the things that matter to us.

Whether you're seeking counselling or performance coaching, my approach is collaborative, thoughtful and grounded in your individual circumstances.
